What do gutter repairs cost in Cape Town?
Priced by the actual work: run to reset, joints to reseal, downpipes involved and fascia to replace. Fascia is usually the biggest variable and we quote it separately. It is almost always a fraction of what the damp damage it prevents would cost.
Do I need to replace all my gutters or just some?
Usually just some. Cape Town's rain comes in on north-westerly fronts, so the north and west runs take most of the water and fail well before the sheltered elevations. Replacing those and repairing the rest is normal and it is what we will quote unless there is a reason not to.
My gutters are steel and I am near the sea. Should I replace them with aluminium?
Generally yes, when they reach the point of replacement. Salt air corrodes steel from the inside where silt holds moisture, so coastal steel gutters fail from a direction you cannot inspect. Aluminium removes that failure mode and it is the reason it has become the default here.
Can a rusted section be patched rather than replaced?
Rarely worth it. Corrosion in a gutter starts on the inside and by the time it is visible outside it is well advanced along the run, so a patch usually fails alongside itself within a season or two. Replacing the affected section is more honest and generally cheaper over any real timeframe.
The gutter is sagging. Is it the gutter or the fascia?
Check the board. Sagging almost always means brackets have lost their grip on fascia that softened from water running behind the gutter for years. Refixing into soft timber holds for a season and then repeats. We establish which before quoting.
